Charles Hershey Obituary

HANOVER Charles A. "Jack" Hershey, 80, entered God's eternal care Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center. Born April 2, 1929 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Martha (Keagy) Hershey. Jack was the loving husband of Mary K. (Linton) Hershey to whom he was married for 24 years, and the late Evelyn O. (Dayhoff) Hershey who died May 10, 1981. Jack was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover. He loved to sing and often did work as a soloist for his church. Jack was a 1947 graduate of Eichelberger High School and was the former owner operator of D.K. Hershey Trucking until his retirement in 1993. In addition to his wife Mary, Jack is survived by his children, Ronald Hershey and wife Laura of Hanover, Sharon K. Hershey of Hanover, Brian Hershey and wife Janie of Troy; his stepsons, D. Lynn Weaver and wife Edie of McSherrystown, J. Steven Weaver and wife Drema of Hanover; his grandchildren, Amy, Karissa, Ryan, Melinda, Shawn,; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Swisher of Hanover; his nephew, Arlis Bortner and wife Gwen of LaGrande, Calif.; and his nieces, Sally Hershey and Susan Bollinger both of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a brother, David K. Hershey and a sister, Kathryn Hershey. A service to celebrate and remember Jack's life will be held 10 a.m., Thursday at Trinity United Church of Christ, 116 York Street, Hanover, with his Pastor the Rev. Karin Stork-Whitson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. Viewings and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, as well as from 9 to 10 a.m., Thursday at the church. Serving as casketbearers will be D. Lynn Weaver, J. Steven Weaver, Christopher Weaver, Troy Bortner, Bruce Dayhoff and Ryan Hershey. Contributions in honor of Jack may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ Building Fund, 116 York Street, Hanover, PA 17331. The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover. Memories & condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com.
