David C. Meckley

ABBOTTSTOWN David C. Meckley, 68, Good Samaritan to all, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Susan B. (Bankert) Meckley, his wife of 49 years. David was born January 18, 1946, in Hanover, the son of the late David S. and Jennie M. (Hamme) Meckley. David was a member of St. John's U.C.C. in New Chester. He served his country in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive, and upon his return, was stationed at the Pentagon where he received a commendation for special works in the engineering drafting department. He owned his own construction company, was an executive board member with the Keystone Contractors' Association, a school board member with the Conewago Valley School District, and was formerly an engineer for Hamilton Twp. on the planning commission. He was a life member of the East Berlin V.F.W., a member of the Good Samaritan Lodge #336, F.&A.M. in Gettysburg, and the Shriners. In addition to his wife Susan, David was cherished and loved deeply by three children and their spouses; five grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 12 p.m. at St. John's U.C.C., 2243 Hunterstown-Hampton Road, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Douglas C. Hahn officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Abbottstown. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
