Francesco N. Assi, 94, entered into God's eternal care Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Melanina "Nina" (Coppola) Assi to whom he was married 62 years.
Born January 1, 1923 in Castellaneta Taranto, Italy, he was the son of Onofrio and Francesca (Forleo) Assi.
Francesco retired from the Government of Argentina prior to arriving in the United States and worked with his sons and wife up to his retirement at J & S Pizza in Frederick, MD. Family was his life as he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Francesco also enjoyed spending time in his fruit garden, woodworking and tinkering with anything that was broken. He was a Formula One Ferrari Aficionado. Frank was proud to have served in the Italian Royal Navy.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, Frances Lippy and husband, Christopher of Hanover, Onofrio Assi and wife, Julia of Gettysburg, Michael Assi and wife, Susan Cooper-Assi of Hanover and Adrian Assi and wife, Tara of Hanover; ten grandchildren, Francesco, Jonathan, Gianni, Samantha, Nicholas, Anthony, Olivia, Richard, Adia and Adalena; and one great-grandson, Jack. He was preceded in death by a sister, Domenichina Violante.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover, with the Rev. Msgr. James M. Lyons as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover. Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
