Harry J. Toms

Harry J. Toms, 79, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Januar y 31, 2006, at Gettysburg Hospital. He was the husband of Charlotte L. (Menges) Toms for 60 years. Born March 21, 1926, in Woodsboro, Md., he was the son of the late J. Ralph and Mildred (Wilhide) Toms. Mr. Toms attended Walkersville School in Maryland. He worked for the Littlestown Rubber Factory, Walter F. CrouseJohn Deere, and Finch ServicesJohn Deere of Westminster and Hanover for 40 years. He was also a lifelong farmer. Harry was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He served on the SS Finley Peter Dunne and the SS Seaman A. Knapp. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Littlestown. Harry is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Q. Butt of Littlestown; one son, John W. Toms and his wife, Grace of Littlestown; four grandchildren, Todd Butt, Lisa Heininger and her husband, Troy of Littlestown, Jason Toms of Chambersburg, and Janyn Toms of Littlestown; and two great-granddaughters, Samantha Butt and Alexis Heininger, both of Littlestown. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Littlestown, with the Rev. James S. Dunlop and the Rev. Samuel A. Garrett officiating. There will be no viewing at the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Little's Funeral Home, 34 Maple Ave., Littlestown. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown. Littlestown Allied Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
