J. Baust Obituary
Mr. J. Kenneth Baust, 82, died Sunday, November 13, 2005, at Carroll Hospital Center, West minster, Md., after an extended illness. He was the husband of Elsie L. Baust, his wife of 61 years. Born October 17, 1923, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late E. Laverne and Ione Coe Baust. He had been a resident of Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center since March, 2005. Mr. Baust was a 1941 graduate of New Windsor High School. He had been a farmer and then employed as a truck driver with S. Lease Warner from 1968 until retirement in 1982. He was a member of St. Benjamin's Kriders Lutheran Church, Westminster, Md., and had formerly been a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Uniontown, Md. He was formerly a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. During his younger years he played baseball on the Wakefield Valley team, and also enjoyed bowling in several leagues and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Josie Porterfield and husband, Tim of Lutherville, Md.; a son, Toby J. Baust and wife, Joyce of Westminster, Md.; two grandchildren, John Baust and wife, Karyn and A. Christine Garland and husband, Richard, all of Hanover; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Gent of Westminster, Md. and Sue E. Baust of Hanover; and three brothers, Ralph E. Baust of Westminster, Md., Carroll Baust of Norfolk, Va., and Paul Baust of Baltimore, Md. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Baust; a daughter, Sally Baust; and three brothers, Emory, James, and Charles Baust. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Krug Chapel, Carroll Lutheran Village, with the Rev. David S. Schafer, his pastor, and the Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz, chaplain of Carroll Lutheran Village, officiating. Private interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Uniontown, Md. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, Md., from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
