Joseph Machin Obituary

HANOVER Joseph E. "Bud" Machin, Jr., 91, passed peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2013, at the home of his son in Glen Rock. He was the loving husband of Ruth N. (Hardesty) Machin, his wife of 70 years. Born December 1, 1921, in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Joseph E., Sr. and Martha I. (Reisinger) Machin. Mr. Machin was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in North Africa and the European Theatre. He was employed as a journeyman plumber with R.M. Cairnes, Inc., Baltimore, Md., for 43 years prior to retiring in 1984. "Bud" was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and cherished the time spent with his family. He enjoyed listening to music and building things in his spare time. He also enjoyed going out for breakfast on Sunday mornings and traveling with his wife, Ruth. They enjoyed 13 cruises together over the years. He will also be dearly missed by his pet Yorkiepoo, "Jill". Other survivors include two children, Leslie A. Henry and her husband, Harold of Hanover, and Joseph E. "Earl" Machin, III and his wife, Jetta of Glen Rock; a granddaughter, Tracey A. Beyer and her husband, Brian of Hampstead, Md.; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Victoria, Jake, and Josh; a great-great-granddaughter, Emma; and a brother, Richard Machin of Brooksville, Fla. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph E. Machin, IV. A service to celebrate the life of Joseph "Bud" Machin will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with Pastor Dan Thomas officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Immediately following the service on Tuesday, full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home. Final committal will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. For those desiring, contributions may be made in Mr. Machin's memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 2615 Joppa Road, York, PA 17403; or VNA/Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331.
