Keith Zumbrum Obituary

NEW OXFORD Keith David "Mutt" Zumbrum, 47, entered into God's eternal care Friday, January 2, 2015, at his home of natural causes. He was the companion of Melissa Kirk. Born February 17, 1967, in Sunbury, he was the son of Larry E. and Judith A. (Wildasin) Zumbrum. Keith was the grandson of the late Harry and Hester (Yost) Zumbrum and Raymond and Bernice (Bair) Wildasin. Mutt was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved country music, loved old cars - especially his 1966 Comet, which he purchased just last year. He loved his dogs and treated them like children. Keith was a bowler when able and for a while managed the bowling alley outside of York Springs. In addition to his parents and companion, Keith is survived by his daughter, Krista M. (Kirk) Klunk, and his grandchildren, Makaelyn Jade and Vance C. Klunk, Jr., all of whom he loved very much; and his companion Melissa's other two children, Joseph and Kaitlyn Pittman, whom he loved and cared for as well. Mutt was a friend to many and if you were his friend he would stand with you through thick and thin. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road, Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. E. Robert Burkhart, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA, 19004; or the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. The Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, has been entrusted by the family with the funeral arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com

This is Jeff Kleb again. I made an error in the submission of my message yesterday. I listed Keith D. Zumbrum's parents as Larry and Kathy. It is Larry and JUDY. I apologize for the mistake. I was trying to do two things at once - something that's not always a good idea late at night at my age. If somebody could edit/correct my comment, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks! ( Rest in peace, Keith! )

I am reading this memorial many years later after his death. I was not aware that he passed away at such a young age. He was one of the first people I met after moving to Hanover, PA in the fall of 1983 when I was just 18. We hung out a lot and certainly got into our share of trouble (minor mischief) back in the mid-1980s. It seemed that if there was a party somewhere, he could find it.

I was a GM guy who liked Chevys and Oldsmobiles, while he loved Fords - so we scrapped more than a few times over that. Eventually, I served in the Army Reserve and went off to college - ending up in Virginia by 1988 (but Keith was happy that my first new car was indeed a Ford Mustang GT).

He once showed me how (over a few beers) to replace the noisy wheel bearings on my old 1978 Chevette. His parents (Larry and Kathy) were always so nice too. Truly great people!

I never met his lady or his daughter, but I heard about them. I spoke with his mom and dad in the mid-2000s when I was visiting my (now deceased) mother in Spring Grove. I spent 34 years in Virginia and am now retired from short-haul trucking. My wife works for the US military as a civilian and we live in Germany until 2025........but Central PA will always hold a special place in my heart. I think of Keith every time I am in the area.

RIP, Keith!! ( Jeff Kleb - whom you always knew as "that Jewish kid" - even though I am not Jewish.)

Thank you to everyone for your kind words about Mutt. For those of you that have known him a long time, we were together for almost 20 years and were high school sweethearts prior to that. I will miss him in my life forever. Although we were not together in the end, I always loved him since I met him in high school in the 1983. He was a great companion, friend, son, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by all. Until we see each other again, my love, watch over us all as you always did.

So sad to lose a great friend thu thick and thin. Many nights talking about life and just things. He loved red, his family dogs and that car he'd always leave with a noice. Friends like him are hard to find.the day i first met him he called me my family name 'nete' noone ever knew it.i told him only my grandpa called me that and my passing uncle. He said sorry. I told him dont b he can if he wants to. Always did from there on. Friends like him are hard to find but im glad to have had a friend like him.

I will never forget Keith. We went to S.W. together and he grew up a street behind me. I will always remember the good times we had when the neighbor hood kids hung out. Summer times at the light post on the corner of Hirtland Ave and Merietta Ave. Keith was always a good hearted person that was always there for his friends. Prayers for his family. R.I.P dear friend.

"MUTT" was a good man and i know if i ever needed help with something he would back me up and others he was a man that the phrase of HE WOULD GIVE THE SHIRT OFF HIS BACK was true. though the only thing he said to me was get rid of that dang CHEVROLET you need a real veichle get a "FORD". he always called me pard, and son and that meant alot to me because we joked and laughed alot! he was someone i could open up to and not be judged. to his family I'm sorry for your loss. he will be missed greatly.

he was a very upfront man he spoke his mind and didn't care. in the time i got to talk to him he opened up to me and had a good heart. i did some work for him and every time i talked to him he expressed his grattitude. He was a good man and loved his daughter and grand kids he always spoke highly of them. Everyone will miss him including myself.

I loved Mutt just like he was my father. I never grew up with a father in my life and lived with my grandmother practically all my life but during the time I lived with my mother, Melissa Kirk, he always treated me like his own child and told people I was his daughter as well. I'm very upset to see him go and I was very upset to see him go down that painful road he went down but it comforts me to know that he no longer suffers anymore. I love you, Mutt. I know you always knew that.
