Davenport, FL - Michael Joseph Ernst, 76, of Davenport, FL, lost his battle with ALS on December 23, 2018. Born March 15, 1942 in Hanover, he was the son of Grace (Collins) Ernst of Hanover and the late Joseph Ernst.

Michael was a 1960 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as a radioman in the Philippines. He was a radio and television engineer, retiring from the U. S. State Department after 40 years of service. He traveled to over 70 countries during his career and kept his love for traveling afterwards by going on as many cruises as he could. He had a great love and passion for the game of golf, he even worked part time at a course after retiring to Florida and played as much as he possibly could. He was a very loving generous man who was very proud to have served his country in the Navy. He was very proud and loved all of his family and friends just as much as they all loved him. He will be greatly missed by all, and will forever be in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years Peggy Ernst; four siblings, Linda Keffer and husband Thomas, and Thomas Ernst and wife Diane, all of Hanover, Joanne Fink and husband David of Thurmont, MD, and Patricia Griffin and husband Derrell of Hanover; three children, Michelle Ostendorp and husband Mark, Karen Obrien, and Matthew Ernst; five grandchildren, Jay and Jonathan Welch, Marnette and Alayna Obrien, and Dillon Ernst; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Welch. He was also extremely loved by many nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.
