Hanover - Michael J. Hockensmith, age 60, passed away peacefully, at home with his family by his side, on Wednesday June 16, 2021. He was the loving husband of Rita M. (Wyatt) Hockensmith, together they shared over 4 1/2 years of marriage.

Mike was born in Hanover on August 31, 1960 and was the son of the late Ralph "Jack" Hockensmith and Sally (Sanders) Hockensmith. He graduated from Hanover High School class of 1978 and worked as a machinist at Ridge Engineering in Hampstead MD for almost 30 years prior to his illness. He also enjoyed working as a motorcycle mechanic for Blettner Power Sports in Hanover.

Mike was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed guns, hunting, all types of racing, especially RC cars, playing the drums, farming, tinkering in his garage and being "Pappy" to his grandchildren. He was a member of the Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Hanover, the Knights of Columbus at St. Bartholomew Church, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion in Hampstead MD and numerous other clubs including the HOG chapter in Gettysburg, the Eagle Riders. He also participated in several rides for charity.

In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by his sons Brent Hockensmith and his wife Erica, Drew Hockensmith and his fiancee' Shana and Jake Hockensmith and his fiancee' Lindsey; his step-children Stacy Neiderer and her husband Eric, Shawn Kohler and his girlfriend Rebecca, Stephanie Starling and her husband Josh and his grandchildren Lucy, Maddox, Charlotte, Reed, Makayla, Payton and Cameron. He is also survived by his sister Beth Miranda and her husband Ken and two nieces.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation in celebration of Mike's life on Monday, June 21, 2021, from 10:00AM - 11:00AM at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 220 3rd St., Hanover, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest following the Mass at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in New Oxford. Funeral Services are under the direction of Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., of McSherrystown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Church.
