HANOVER Randy S. Whitson, 57, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, with his family and friends by his side. Born on Friday, February 28, 1958, in Hanover, he was a son of Wanda Anderson Whitson of Hanover and the late Shad J. Whitson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Steven L. Whitson. Randy received Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Administration of Criminal Justice. He also earned a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University and was also a graduate of the FBI Academy and the Hanover Public School District Practical Nursing Program. He was a member of the Hanover Borough Police Department for more than 32 years and served as police chief from 2005 to 2013. In his retirement, he was looking forward to a career in nursing. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jean M. Whitson; a son, Jeremy T. Whitson of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Lori J. Livingston of Hanover; and a large extended family. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, with Chaplain Thomas Shelley officiating. Chief Randy Whitson will lie in repose from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, also at the funeral home.
