Sandra Nace Obituary

YORK Sandra Louise (Markel) Nace, 70, entered into God's eternal care after a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at her home. Sandra was the loving wife of The Rev. Philip K. Nace. She was born May 4, 1940, in Hanover, the daughter of the late Kenneth P. Markel and Margaret Bollinger Markel. She graduated in 1959 from the Eichelberger Senior High School in Hanover and attended nursing school in Chambersburg. She worked at Homewood in Hanover and then in the Plum Creek facility on Westminster Ave., Hanover, as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was also a private duty nursing assistant in the homes of the elderly. Before her marriage, she was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church on York St. in Hanover and enjoyed singing in the choir there, as well as in many of the churches where her husband was the pastor. At one time she served as a church choir director. She is survived by her husband, The Rev. Philip Nace; two daughters, Melissa A. Elicker and her husband, Brian E. Elicker of Wrightsville, and Cheryl Moser of New Oxford; six grandchildren, James Shearer of Honey Run Drive, York, Alyssa Shearer, Caleb Moser, and Kevin Moser, all of New Oxford, and Brianna Elicker and Benjamin Elicker, both of Wrightsville; a brother, William A. Markel of Hanover; and many nieces and nephews. Sandra greatly loved her grandchildren and spending time with them and her family. She also loved to travel to different places and she loved flowers and children. She loved to read about angels and go shopping as well. She also enjoyed crocheting and watching television, especially the QVC and Home Shopping Network. She was an avid Scrabble player and a collector of hand blown glass figurines. A service to remember and celebrate Sandra's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at St. Paul's Dubs United Church of Christ, 1958 Dubs Church Road, Hanover, with The Rev. Larry Estepp and The Rev. Joseph Lingenfelter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Dubs Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and share memories from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Serving as casketbearers will be R. Thomas Sager, Dean Nace, Bradley King, Daniel Leib, Randall Nace, and Brian Elicker. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to White Rose Hospice, 2870 Eastern Blvd., York, PA 17402. Arrangements entrusted to Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com

So sorry to hear about Sandy. The bible speaks of a time when we will see our loved ones again and death will be no more. May the scriptures provide some comfort during this time of sadness.

Dearest Phil, James and family. I have never met somebody as wonderful as Sandy. She was - and always will be - an inspiration to me. Her grace and sense of humor, even in her last days, were an amazement to me. Truly, she has no more pain...no more sorrow. Thank you for sharing your wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister with me.

Rev. Nace, when my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer we elected to have her spend her remaining time in her own home. Unfortunately because of her condition she could not be left alone. With family working and not all living in the area we needed someone we felt comfortable with to fill in when we couldn't be there. Sandy came to the rescue. Mom was in capable hands. She and Sandy became friends and mom actually looked forward to their time together. May Sandy rest in peace and may your memories bring you comfort at this difficult time.

To Sandy's family: I knew her many years ago when she was in high school and active in scouts. What a wonderful person she was then; I can imagine how much love and care she brought to her family and friends. She will be watching from above, with the Lord at her side.
My prayers are with you.
