Sylvia A. Masemer

McSherrystown - Sylvia Ann Masemer, 74, of McSherrystown, died at the York Hospital, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born February 24, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine (McDermott) Topper. She was the wife of William "Bill" Masemer of McSherrystown, to whom she was married for 53 years.

Sylvia was a member of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, McSherrystown and the McSherrystown Moose. She is a retired school-age childcare provider for the Hanover Area YMCA for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and was very active with the girl scouts. Sylvia also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children: Deanne Fisher and husband Michael of Pillow, Mark Masemer and wife Miranda of Gettysburg, Danica Bange and partner Bill Hornberger of York New Salem, and Kami Noel and husband Jeremy of East Berlin; eleven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by nine of her 12 brothers and sisters: Dennis Topper of Texas, Andy Topper and Spencer Topper both of McSherrystown, Carolyn Little of Virginia, Eileen "Stella" Wulf of Florida, Dave Topper of Lancaster, Tom Topper of New Oxford, Wayne Topper of Gettysburg, and Cindy Baughman of Littlestown. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia "Patsy" Keller and two brothers, Paul "Sonny" Topper and Dale Topper.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with Rev. Charles L. Persing officiating. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown. Relatives and friends will be received 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sylvia may be made to the School-Age Childcare Program of the Hanover Area YMCA, 500 George Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or the American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
