Harvey Boyd Obituary
He was born in Hornell on June 21, 1932, a son of the late Leonard and Helen Boyd. On Sept. 7, 1957, he was married to Mary Knowlton Boyd, who predeceased him in 2014.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving with the Signal Corps in Alaska during the Korean War. Harvey was a Class A assembly welder at the former Foster Wheeler Energy Corp. in Dansville for 29 years, retiring in 1995. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Catholic Community at St. Mary's Church in Dansville and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Council 11538. Harvey was active throughout his life at St. Mary's, volunteering for activities at church and school. He was a skilled wood worker and made Christmas ornaments for school children for many years. He was volunteer maintenance man at the Vincent House in Wayland. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, being a good friend and neighbor to many in Dansville.
He is survived by his brother, Benjamin Boyd; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Friends may call Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Dansville. Interment with full military honors will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dansville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, N.Y., 14572.
