Martin Moses Obituary
Martin was born on Jan. 12, 1954 in Hornell to Carl T. and Mary Jean (Whitikar) Moses. He was a 1972 graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School.
Marty owned and operated Moses Lumber in Almond for many years.
Marty is survived by a daughter, Colleen (Danny Dobson) McIntyre of Almond; three sons, Kyle Moses and Tim (Sarah Von Hagn) Moses, both of Almond and Chris Moses of Denver, Colo.; his longtime girlfriend, Marilyn Maddaford of Almond and her two daughters, Alexandria Bebout and Patricia Bebout; his former wife and mother of his children, Kathy Moses; one brother, Roger Moses of Massachusetts; two grandsons, Cale McIntyre and Aaron Moses, both of Almond; one nephew, Max Moses; and his lifelong best friend, Mike Parker of Almond, who was always there to help.
Martin was an avid sports enthusiast. He love watching, playing and coaching, especially basketball. For many years he coached youth sports. Like his father before him, he was a lifelong Alfred University football fan. Marty also had a love for motorcycles and snowmobiles. As a hobby, he enjoyed coin collecting.
Over the past 15 years, Marty struggled greatly with addiction. With the addiction came broken relationships with family and friends, as well as financial setbacks. His story though was one of redemption. Marty in years past accepted the Lord as his Savior. God never left him and in recent years he learned to lean on God to stay sober and was in the process of re-establishing relationships with his children and a circle of close friends. In the words of his daughter, "Dad overcame many trials; he had a big heart and was a wonderful father."
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday (Nov. 24) at 11 a.m. at Almond Union of Churches with Rev. Charlie Emerson officiating.
