Pamela Bennett

1922 - 2015

HAMMONDSPORT - Pamela Bennett, 92, passed away at Hart Comfort House on Friday (Jan. 30, 2015) surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Bennett was born on Dec. 2, 1922 in Quetta, India to Harold and Gladys (Rushton) Hancock. After graduating from high school, Pamela served in the British Army during World War II in the European Theater as a medic. At a dance in Ipswich, England, she met Denis Bennett, whom she later married on Sept. 4, 1975 in Hull, England.

After her military service, Pamela offered childcare to orphans in England and then became a homemaker caring for her own husband and children. Pamela entered the health care field and retired in 1971 from Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport as a therapeutic food service supervisor.

Along with her husband, Pamela is survived by two daughters, Theresa L. Toth-Fleischman (Scott Mureddu) of Scio, Pamela Shattuck (Fred Austin) of Oramel; three sons, Jeffrey Shattuck (Rick Schafer) and Howard Shattuck (Robin) both of Rochester, and Michael Shattuck (Carol) of Florida; two step daughters, Caroline Wales and Mandy Chapman, both of Ipswich, England; 17 grandchildren, Katie Toth, Jon DePratt, Joanie DePratt, Justin Shattuck, William Shattuck, Paul Shattuck, Thomas Shattuck, Jedidiah Shattuck, Michael, James, Jesse Shattuck, Jerry Shattuck, Michele Shattuck; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a dear friend, Mark Latzer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Gwendolyn and Helen and a brother, Geoffrey Hancock.

Pamela was an avid euchre player, enthusiastic English soccer fan and she also enjoyed ballroom dancing. She delighted in bird watching and reading, especially history. Pamela had a caring heart which prompted her to give to many disabled veteran organizations and to offer her help as a caregiver to others. She also liked to travel, but by far, Mrs. Bennett was most fond of visiting with family, especially during the holidays.

The family is especially grateful for the compassionate care of the staff of Hart Comfort House, Jones Memorial Hospital and Wellsville Manor.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville, The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. A spring burial with full British military honors is planned at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Brockport. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
