Vyrna Brown Obituary

Vyrna Nadine Stocking Brown
Cohocton - Vyrna Nadine Stocking Brown, age 87 of Cohocton NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 18, 2021 at her home in Cohocton. She was born Oct 7, 1933 in Atlanta NY to Leslie Stocking and Doris Moore Stocking at her grandparent's home. She leaves behind a legacy defined by faith, family and service to those she loved. Raised in Atlanta NY, she attended the one-room country schoolhouse and graduated from Wayland Central School. She had a joyful childhood filled with times and experiences with generations of her extended family. After school she went to work at Gunlocke Chair Company where she met her future loving husband, Keith D. Brown. They were married on November 1, 1951 on her Grandma Lelia's birthday. Together they spent nearly 70 years building a life together that lives on in their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vyrna loved her family and lived to care for and serve her family. She expressed her love in her handiwork: pies from her kitchen; sweaters, blankets, doll clothes, ceramics from her craft room; birdhouses and feeders from her woodshop. She joyfully supported and served her family: caregiving for many ailing family members; child caring for many grandchildren; supporting her children's varied interests and passions - cub scout den mother, baseball bookkeeping, birdwatching; creating family celebrations and holiday event gatherings; enthusiastically attending many, many sporting events! Her strong and capable arms worked for the good of her family delivering mail, harvesting potatoes, pruning vineyards. She supported her church and the faith life of her children and her heart was sensitive to the needs of others. She exemplified the wife and mother expressed in scripture in Proverbs 31:10-31, "A truly good wife is the most precious treasure a man can find! Her husband depends on her, and she never lets him down. She is good to him every day of her life, and with her own hands she gladly makes clothes. She is like a sailing ship that brings food from across the sea. She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family and for her servants. She knows how to buy land and how to plant a vineyard, and she always works hard. She knows when to buy or sell, and she stays busy until late at night. She spins her own cloth, and she helps the poor and the needy. Her family has warm clothing, and so she doesn't worry when it snows. She does her own sewing, and everything she wears is beautiful. Her husband is a well-known and respected leader in the city. She makes clothes to sell to the shop owners. She is strong and graceful, as well as cheerful about the future. Her words are sensible, and her advice is thoughtful. She takes good care of her family and is never lazy. Her children praise her, and with great pride, her husband says, 'There are many good women, but you are the best!' Charm can be deceiving, and beauty fades away but a woman who honors the LORD deserves to be praised. Show her respect— praise her in public for what she has done." Vyrna is predeceased by her parents Leslie Stocking and Doris Moore Stocking; her sister, Virginia Harter; her in-laws, Stanley and Beulah Brown, Stanley Jr., Richard Walther, & John Foley. She leaves behind her legacy of love and is survived by her husband, Keith D. Brown; her siblings and in-laws, Beverly Foley, Richard and Jillian Stocking, Gerald Harter, Donna Lou Walther, Bruce and Sheryl Brown. Her children: Dale (Yong Sun) Brown of Cohocton NY, David (Caroline) Brown of Pittsford NY, Kim (Robert) Gleason of Cuba NY, Terry (Trisha) Brown of Wayland NY, Douglas (Susan) Brown of Canisteo NY. Her grandchildren: James "Tage" (Heather) Brown, Amy (Scott) Faulkner, Ruthie Brown, Rebekah "Reba" Brown, Nathaniel (Jessica) Brown, Megan (Derick) Ahrens, Andrea (Larry) Wise, Terin (Justin) Harris, Tyler (Anni) Brown, Derek Brown, Jacob Brown. Her great-grandchildren: Kalan, Tobias, Elias, Titus, DeAndre, Brenton, Rayden, Emmy, Bella, Bentley; and her many loved nieces & nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 21 from 4pm – 7pm at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland where funeral services will be held at 7pm. A private family burial will take place in Mapleview Cemetery in Cohocton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Cohocton United Methodist Church, PO Box 334, Cohocton, NY 14826.
