Frank Spencer Obituary

Frank L. Spencer, 85, former publisher of the Pawhuska Journal-Capital newspaper, died March 21 in Albuquerque, N.M.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. April 7 at St. John Catholic Church, 715 S. Johnstone, in Bartlesville.
Frank, born in Deadwood, S.D., on Sept. 28, 1924, married Isla Klatka in 1949 in Alliance, Neb.
In 1951 they moved to Pawhuska where, as a member of the Associated Press, he worked as editor, general manager, then publisher of the Pawhuska Journal-Capital till 1980. He also served as city manager in Cleveland, Okla.
Frank was an avid community supporter, serving with multiple organizations in Pawhuska including the local school board, City Council and Chamber of Commerce.
A World War II veteran, he served in the Medical Corp in Europe.
Frank earned many accolades over the years, including awards for photography.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Isla, of Bartlesville, and eight children, Judy Vaughn of Lake Helen, Fla.; Linda of Bartlesville; Mark of Bixby; Margaret Bouvier of Bartlesville; Gregory of Bartlesville; Bernadette of Lake Helen, Fla.; John of Forsyth, Mo.; and Eric of Capetown, South Africa; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
