Charles Dwain "Chuck" Driskell Sr.

Charles "Chuck" Dwain Driskell Sr., 76, of Blue Springs, Missouri, succumbed to congestive heart failure on February 27, 2021.

Chuck is survived by his wife Esther of 55 years; sons Chuck Driskell Jr. (Dolly), Zack Driskell (Amber), and three grandchildren, Sydney, Sam, and Layla. He is also survived by his sisters Ralphine Smit and Elizabeth Newsom, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Chuck was born to Alfred O. Driskell and Lois Griffin in Jackson, Alabama, where he was raised until he joined the U.S. Navy. Chuck served on the USS Hancock, one of the first carriers sent to the Vietnam conflict. He later became a Navy Seabee, MCB 5, and was a member of the Seabee Tactical Assistance Team (STAT) that was deployed to Thailand as the Vietnam Conflict continued.

Chuck met his wife in 1965 in Port Hueneme, California, and they were married when he returned from active duty. After returning to his home state of Alabama for a few years, Chuck and Esther moved to Blue Springs, Missouri, where they raised their family and made many wonderful friends. Chuck was a little league football and baseball coach in the early years of the Blue Springs Athletic Association. He remembered every boy and girl that he ever coached and had so many great memories. It made his day whenever he would see them around town! Chuck loved watching Alabama football games, the Chiefs, and the Royals. He proudly watched his grandson Sam's baseball and football games, and rejoiced in his granddaughter Sydney's many accomplishments. Being Papa to little Layla was such a joy late in his life.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Masks and social distancing will be required in the chapel. Followed by a military service held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville for immediate family only at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, it was Chuck's wish that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The family would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Chuck's doctors and nurses who helped him through his medical issues, allowing us to have Dad in our lives an extra twenty-six years.
