James Cottrell
Buckner - James David "Jim" Cottrell, 59 of Buckner, Mo. passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at his residence. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2021, 6-8 pm, and service will be 10 am, Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, Missouri. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO. Jim was born July 7, 1962, to Jimmy Dean and Barbara L. (Barr) Cottrell, in Kansas City, Missouri. Jim attended Truman High School and went on to Vocational in Auto Body Repairs, in Raytown Missouri. In 2000 Jim met Sandra Harris and fell fast in love and friendship. A year later they welcomed their son Blake into the world. Jim was an amazing man, with talents exceeding many, you may find him re-roofing a house, or tending to his garden, many times you would find him whipping up a meal, for he was an excellent chef and enjoyed doing so. He had a passion for working on cars and was often the "go to guy" by friends and family who needed mechanical expertise. Jim was an avid lover of animals and if anyone was ever in need, he would be the first one there, more often never being asked. Classic rock was on his radio station and his son, Blake, was always in his heart. Jim was an outstanding father and thought the world of his son, Blake, knowing he would accomplish anything he set his mind to. Jim will be missed by many and will always live on in the hearts and love of his family and friends. Many people were touched by Jim's generosity and commitment to help. He had a warm and loving spirit. Jim is survived by his son, Blake Cottrell; his son's mother, Sandra Harris; his mother, Barbara (Robert) Lane; siblings, Deborah (Edward) Osowski; Tamara (Tami) Cottrell; step siblings, Donna (Jimmy Barchers) Lane; Randy Lane; daughter by choice Brianna (Lane Utherback) Harris; granddaughter by choice, Allison Utherback; nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends. Online condolences may be expressed (Speaks Suburban Chapel 816-3733600).

I just learned of Jim´s passing. He was such a good man and dear human. He was so helpful and generous. He was a good friend to my late brother David. He took in David´s horse and cared for him even after David became too ill to care for Chance himself. I had the pleasure of being friends with Jim for only a short time. My heart hurts for his loved ones.
