Mason Atagi Obituary
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the LDS Stake Center, 937 W. Walnut St., Independence, MO 64050; cremation. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Stake Center.
The family requests contributions to the William Chrisman Booster Club.
Mason was born March 8, 1999, in Independence, and was a sophomore at William Chrisman High School, where he played football, basketball, ran track, worked on the yearbook staff and was on the Honor Roll. He loved all kinds of music, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved hanging out with his family. He had a welcoming smile and was a friend to all.
Mason is survived by his parents, Kristina and Stayton Atagi, brother, Alex Atagi, and sister, Ava Atagi, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Lee and Carol Snyder, and paternal grandfather, Ifo Atagi, all of Independence, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Marianne McCollam and husband, Shane, Blue Springs, Mo.; maternal great-grandmother, Adla Snyder, and paternal great-grandmother, Suisami Atagi, both of Independence, Mo.; and many other family members.

Although I did not know your son, I am a parent also. You have my deepest condolences on your immeasurable loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There is little that I can say or do to ease your pain and suffering. May knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, bring a measure of comfort. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14. I drove a school bus for Independence and Mason was a passenger on my bus for two years when he was in the sixth and seventh grades. He and his friends were well behaved and mannerly and were a pleasure to have on my bus. He was a mature and well liked leader of the group. Many people think that junior high students are unruly, but Mason and friends were a pleasure to see each day. I am also very pleased to know that my grand-daughter was his classmate and was in his circle of friends. I was most impressed with him in every way. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. You can take comfort in the fact that he was such an outstanding person that even his short life, he had a positive impact on the people around him. I will continue to have Mason and your family in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time of adjustment to life without him.

I did not know your son Mason but my Granddaughter, Kylee Ward was his friend and has told me so many wonderful things about him. He was truly a perfect son. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family in the loss of Mason. Taken way too soon.
