Michael Leap Obituary

Michael Dale Leap of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed peacefully at his home on April 2, 2017.

Michael was born on August 30, 1943, in Caldwell, Kansas, to Harold and Ruth (Horn) Leap. He would grow to be man who kept to his values, attending college and proudly serving his country from 1964 to 1967 as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Before his retirement, he used those values and that "never met a stranger" personality as Director of Community Relations and Public Policy for St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs.

Michael was committed to his community serving on the Blue Springs R-7 School Board from 1980-1993, being a member of the Rotary Club, Lions, active with the VFW, a Eucharistic Minister for St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church and numerous other organizations within the area. He was honored to be Blue Springs Citizen of the Year. Mike had been selected for an Honor Flight in 2016, but due to a car accident on his way to the flight, he never got to complete the journey.

Life with Michael was never boring and his love of life flowed to those around him. He leaves behind his beloved wife, MaryAnne (Irwin) Leap of the home; son, Matthew Leap; daughter, Amy Leap, who gave him two of his greatest treasures: grandchildren, Madison and Harrison; brothers, David Leap (Eileen); sister, Lyn Thornton (Harold), Mark Leap (Patti); and sister-in-law, Diane Leap.

Michael follows his parents and brothers, Jeff Leap and Tom Leap, into the Gates of Heaven.

A Rosary for Michael will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, followed by visitation and Mass at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 4313 S.W. Missouri 7, Blue Springs, Mo.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Veterans Way, 425 N.E. Mock Ave., Blue Springs, MO 64014.

Arrangements: Neptune Society, Kansas City, 816-361-2630.

Dear MaryAnne,
I can't believe it's been over a year since Mike's passing. I am sorry I didn't write before but I just learned about it. Mike was a great friend. He was always there to help, to listen and always give the best advice. His companionship during my soccer practices and matches was very supportive. I never had anybody following me and supporting me like he did. I remember when he introduced me to Madison when she was just a little girl interested in soccer. It was so nice of both of them to say the nice things they said to me. I will never forget Mike. He will always be my "Big" Mike.
And God bless your family.

Dear Family, I had the joy and privilege of having Michael serve with us at Blue Springs Police Department Volunteer in Police Service Program. I was the Operations Supervisor and dispatched volunteers as need for various projects we worked on. He did an amazing job and was very much loved by everyone he worked with. May God's peace and comfort be with you all, and as a fellow veteran, Salute, Welcome Home, and Well Done. We will not forget what you did for us Rev. Dr. Ed "Doc" Golden

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Some of my best memories are of working with him at Bank of Jacomo. He was a lovely person.

Mike never met a stranger. He was a unifying force in our neighborhood and we will miss him very much. We will always remember his smile and laugh.

Mike was an inspiration to me in many ways. Through all his challenges he had a smile and twinkle in his eyes. He was coming to our family farm to polish my fathers rusty tools. He loved bringing them back to life. I will miss his most sincere spirit!
