ROBERT LEE SHACKLES Robert Lee Shackles, 79, of Green Ridge passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023, at his home. He was born on June 8, 1943, in Sedalia, Mo., a son of Homer Lee and Bessie Irene (Howard) Shackles. On September 17, 1966, in Houstonia he married Zita Marie Mahin and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2017. Robert honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sedalia. He worked as the Superintendent of Vehicle Maintenance for the United States Postal Service for many years. Bob enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, riding motorcycles and working on cars. He spent many hours working in his garden and watching Nascar. Bob spent the last several years volunteering for the Salvation Army and Open Door. Survivors include two children, Lea Ann Rothmier (Mark) of Blue Springs, Mo., Brian Scott Shackles (Heidi) of Oak Grove, Mo.; five grandchildren, Eric Rothmier, Shelby Barkofske, Hannah Shackles, Ashley Rothmier, and Mark Shackles; two sisters, Joann Hatch (Jim) of Lincoln, Mo., Betty Lane of Sedalia; one sister-in-law, Karen Shackles of Hughesville, Mo. In addition to both of his parents and his wife, Robert was preceded in death by one son, Mark Eugene Shackles; one brother, Homer Lee Shackles; two sisters, Maxine Hall and Willa Shackles. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center with Rev. Candace Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence, Mo. Casket bearers will be Eric Rothmier, Mark Shackles, Darryl Shackles, Kirk Stobart, Matt Barkofske, Michael Hudson, and Todd Hudson. Honorary bearer will be Ron Mahin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project and Toys for Tots.
