Susan Laitner Obituary
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 6, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, MO. The Rosary will be said at 6 p.m., Wednesday, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
The family requests contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice, 123 W Kansas Ave, Independence, MO 64050 or the American Diabetes Assoc., 6900 College Blvd, Leawood, KS 66211.
Susan was born Nov. 12, 1950, to Dr. John C. and Catherine (Ward) Trefz in Carrollton, MO. She graduated from Carrollton High School in the Class of 1968, attended Christian College for Women in 1970 and earned her B.S. in Nursing from Avila College in 1972. On Aug. 10, 1973, she married Christopher "Dan" Laitner. During her nursing career she worked as an outreach nurse treating eating disorders and in the Health Dept. for the City of Independence. She was a member of St. Mark's Parish, Daughters of the American Revolution and Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She enjoyed reading, bird watching and spending time with her family.
Susan is survived by her husband of forty-four years Dan Laitner, of the home; daughter Andrea Uptegrove, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren Jonathan and Elizabeth Uptegrove; son Josh Laitner and wife Christie, Holden, MO; sister Dr. Cassie Braxdale and husband Phil, Leawood, KS; uncle Albert Ward Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
