Twyman Pierre "Ty" Hampshire

1947 - 2021

Twyman Pierre Hampshire (Ty), aged 73 passed away March 12, 2021 at University of Kansas Medical Center.

"Ty" as he was known, was born August 22, 1947 in Peoria, Illinois. He was predeceased by his father Twyman Joseph Hampshire and his mother Lilian (Rene) Hampshire Ninke.

Ty grew up in Overland Park, Kansas and later moved to Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from Joplin High School. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam era. He married and had two children, Jennifer Rene Hampshire (Rhodey) and Jason Twyman Hampshire. He worked as a salesman in the credit card industry for thirty years, retiring in 2019. He met Anita Beth Cohen in June, 1997 and they married in October of 1998. Ty was a most loving and generous husband, and was a devoted father to Anita's daughter Mia Anne Rosado and nephew Michael Edward Cohen. Ty loved fishing, boating on Table Rock Lake, and the Kansas City Chiefs. Ty greatly enjoyed seeing the world with Anita, particularly Scotland.

At 16, Ty became an Eagle Scout and later when raising Michael was a great source of guidance and leadership in Boy Scouts. Among those in the Scouting community, Ty will be remembered as someone who was always available to help anyone who needed his aid. Ty served as an Assistant Cub-Master for troop 438 and then for Troop 347 in the Heart of America Council. He was a Warrior, Silver-Black Wolf in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Ty cared very deeply for children and was a Youth Friends volunteer in the Independence School District, mentoring children for several years. Ty was on the Board as President of Temple Israel of Greater Kansas City for five years and was devoted to its membership. His connection with Judaism gave him great joy and purpose, together with his friendship with Rabbi Jacques Cukierkorn.

Ty is survived by his wife Anita and her daughter Mia Anne Rosado and his nephew Michael Edward Cohen of Lee's Summit, Missouri; daughter Jennifer Rhodey and her husband Cliff Rhodey of Plano, Texas; son Jason Hampshire of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sister Margie Barbato and brother-in-law Larry Barbato of Springfield, Missouri and their children and grandchildren; Granddaughter Megan Samora, Grandson Matthew Rhodey and Granddaughter Monica Vaughn.
