Kathleen Dickman
October 3, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Kathleen Grace Dickman, age 69, of Stonybrook, NY., previously of Fairfield, Connecticut, on Friday, October 3, 2025. Kathleen was surrounded in passing by her family and best friend. Kathleen was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on August 11, 1956, the daughter of the late Carl and Grace (Raveis) Dickman.
Kate as she was affectionately known, devoted her life to her career, family and friends. Holidays with family and friends were among her favorite times. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut and was affiliated with UCONN in the Department of Physiology. In January 1985 Kate moved to Durham, North Carolina and began her affiliation with Duke University School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology. Early in 1991, she relocated to Long Island to work with Northport VA Medical Center, at first splitting her time with Stonybrook University, Department of Pharmacological Sciences and Medicine/Nephrology, ultimately ending her career at Stonybrook University. Kate was exceptionally productive throughout her career, contributing to her field through extensive research, publications, authoring grant applications and earning a patent. This furthered her belief in the importance and feasibility of her department's research and objectives, with an emphasis on urological cancers and the pursuit of banning carcinogenic products.
Despite many health challenges, Kate remained resilient, independent and grateful. She was in constant contact with family and friends enjoying events and meaningful conversations. She was supportive, thoughtful and principled, always focusing on others.
Kate is survived by her beloved family and will be dearly missed by her sister, Maureen Dickman of Stratford; her loving cousin Jamie Caplinger; Sam Febbraio, Kyle Buonincontra, Jeri, Danielle, Jax, Brynn Buonincontra; an aunt, Jeannette Raveis; extended family; her loving dear friends Maryann and Joseph Birch, Michelle Gibson, Pamela Stern, "Netta" and Alex Birch. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Julius and Grace Raveis, paternal grandparents Ernest and Mary E. Dickman; and cousin Dennis Caplinger.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all her friends and neighbors, who supported Kate during her illness, including the exceptional nurses and staff at Cambridge Nursing Home in Fairfield, who cared for her and her family with kindness, empathy and humanity.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on November 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at Saint Emery's Church, 838 Kings
