Rev. Dr. John Raymond Killinger, PhD, ThD

Reverend Doctor John Raymond Killinger, 91 of Warrenton, VA passed away on June 5, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He is predeceased by his first wife Anne Kathryn Killinger, and they had two children, Krister (Angela) and Eric (Pia). He later married Gloria Annette Newton. He has three stepdaughters, Tammie Woldorf, Deborah Neal, and Kimberly Stalling. He is also survived by four grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.

Reverend Killinger was a graduate of Baylor University and earned his Theological Degree at Harvard Divinity School. He also has a PhD from the University of Kentucky, and PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary.

He began his pastoral experience in rural Baptist church in Kentucky, eventually becoming senior minister of the First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg, VA., the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, and the famous Marble Collegiate Church in New York City, where Norman Vincent Peale was the minister for more than forty years. He has taught at several major universities, including Vanderbilt, Chicago and Princeton, and has lectured all over the U.S. and abroad. A prolific writer, he is the author of over 90 books.

John's entire life was dedicated to serving God and his congregation. John was a humble man and opened his heart to everyone. He enjoyed counseling people and later in retirement was still sought after to give sermons and lectures. He had a passion for the theatre, loved nature and bird watching, a challenging crossword puzzle, playing cards, and the social aspect of frequently having lunch out with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 11:00am-12:00noon at Moser Funeral Home 233 Broadview Ave. Warrenton, VA 20186. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon . Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
