Charles H. McLamb Jr.

WILMINGTON - Charles Henry McLamb Jr., 86, of Wilmington, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center. He was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Sampson County, the son of the late Charles Henry "Charlie" McLamb and Lela Taylor McLamb. Also remembered is a son, Charles Harold "Hal" McLamb, who preceded him in death. Mr. McLamb served in several leadership positions at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fayetteville for many years, prior to moving to Wilmington, where he became a member at Pine Valley Baptist Church. He was an accomplished gardener and beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Edith Buck McLamb; daughter, Emily Jungblut and husband Bob of Wilmington; two sons, David McLamb and wife Caron of Laurinburg and Kenneth McLamb and wife Beth of Concord; daughter-in-law, Janet McLamb of Chapel Hill; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, in Pine Valley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Melvin Hall and the Rev. Donald Keith Carter officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the McLamb family cemetery in Sampson County. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday in the church parlor. Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Pine Valley Baptist Church Omega Sunday school class.
