FAYETTEVILLE - After a battle with Dementia, Ella Rae Newton passed away on August 28, 2018. Rae was 76 years old.
Ella Rae was born on June 4, 1942 to Monroe and Elsie Whedbee in Burlington, NC. After graduating from UNC-G, Ella Rae moved to Fayetteville, NC for a job with Homemakers Furniture as an Interior Designer. In 1965 Ella Rae married her husband John Gary Newton at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. Ella Rae and Gary had two children; Jay Gary Newton and Anna C Poulos.
Always giving 100 percent, Rae lived as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is united with her son, Jay Gary Newton and her husband John Gary Newton, her parents Elsie and Monroe Whedbee and her favorite aunt Ona Whedbee.
During her lifetime Rae was an entertainer, an entrepreneur, a philosopher, a trend setter, a leader and a fighter. She was a true Southern lady whose door was always open to those in need. She was a hero to so many. Because of her faith, she goes to a better place where the wine is perfectly paired with her dinner, the food has no calories, the coffee is strong and her nails and lips are always the perfect shade of red. She has gone to a place where she is surrounded by family and friends.
Ella Rae is survived by her sister and her husband, Vicki and Bill Jarrell, her grandchildren, Mackenzie Cole, Caroline Cole, Isabella Newton and Jay Cole. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Samantha Fetters Smith and her husband Mark Smith. She is survived by her niece Traci Jarrell and her nephew Ken Jarrell. During her lifetime Rae was very close and is survived by her cousin William Durham. She is survived by her dear friend Gay Humphrey. She is survived by her extended family, Debbie and Bill Stevens and Kerwin and Jan Heath. She is survived by her daughter Anna C. Poulos and her husband Dr. John E. Poulos.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Rae on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 pm at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Fayetteville Animal Protection Society 3927 Bragg Blvd, Fayetteville NC 28303 and/or Special Olympics 2200 Gateway Centre Blvd. #201, Morrisville, NC 27560.

We are living in critical times hard to deal with and losing a love one is not easy to cope with. Sorry to hear about the lost of your love one, Ella. I hope that your family Was not hit to hard by the storm. Almighty God promises us that death will be know more and He gives us hope and strength. When you get a chance read 2Corinthians chapter 1 verses 3 through 5. May His Holy Spirit be with you and your family.
