Ida Mayes Obituary

LUMBERTON - Ida Rose Walters Mayes, 75, of Lumberton, died in her residence on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. She was born in Robeson County, Aug. 30, 1935, to the late Etheridge Walters and Polly Lee Walters. She previously worked as a flat knitter for the Outer Banks Co. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 56 years, James Mayes. Mrs. Mayes is survived by three sons, Donald Mayes and wife Lynn, James Howard Mayes Jr. and wife Lynn and Charles Henry Mayes and wife Pam, all of Lumberton; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Baker and husband John of Lumberton, Wanda Sue Hall and husband Randy of Lumberton, Mary Mayes of the home, and Kathy Garner and husband Lacy of Carthage; two sisters, Sue Laughlin of Lumberton, and Doris Long of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at 2 p.m. at East Lumberton Church of God with the Rev. Bruce Brumfield and the Rev. Russell Kinlaw Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight, Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, 809 E. 5th St. in Lumberton.
