Patsy W. Dowd

FAYETTEVILLE - Mrs. Patsy Woodall Dowd, 79, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, in Haymount Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mrs. Dowd was preceded in death by her husband, retired Army Lt. Col. Dave Dowd; and a son, Mark Dowd. She attended Second Baptist Church. She was a Red Cross volunteer at Glendale Acres Elementary School, and a tutor at Vanstory Hills Elementary School. She was a supportive wife of her husband's military career around the world. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Ronnie Nichols officiating. Her grandsons will be the pallbearers. Entombment will be in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dowd is survived by two sons, Stephen Dowd and his wife, Deborah, of Fayetteville, and Randy Dowd and his wife, Maria, of Staten Island, N.Y.; two daughters, Cathy Jackman and her husband, retired Army Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman, of Arlington, Va., and Pam D'Alessandro and her husband, Rob, of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren, David Dowd, Stephanie McDougald, Sophia Dowd, David Jackman, Patrick Jackman, Marc Peace, John D'Alessandro and Paul D'Alessandro; and four great-grandchildren.
