Lorree Wilsher Obituary

Lorree Wilsher, 91, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at the Warner Center for Caring (Hospice). She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Clarence and Bernice Norman Pittman and grew up on the west side of Jacksonville. Lorree attended Robert E. Lee High School.
She was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, the Jeanie Benfield Mission group and the Bethany Faith Ladies' Sunday School Class. Lorree also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and taught young women and the Bethany Ladies.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, John D. Wilsher, as well as her brothers, Junior, Leon, Carroll, Eddie Pittman, and her son-in-law, Russell Turner.
Her only surviving sibling is her sister, Jan Pittman.
Lorree leaves behind her two daughters, Sherian Berteau (Jeff) and Vicki Turner, who cared for her after her husband, John, passed away in 2009. Lorree shared a close bond and loving relationship with her daughters. While words cannot fully express the depth of their sorrow and loss, they find comfort in knowing that she is now free from pain and is with Jesus and her beloved husband. She will be deeply missed by her six grandchildren: Jay Kennedy, Douglas Turner (Caressa), Allan Turner (Leah), Patrick Berteau (Laura), Benjamin Berteau (Erin) and Katy Berteau, as well as her nine-and-a-half great-grandchildren: Myles, Carla, John, Evangeline, Theo, Marlee, Baby Berteau, Alex, Charley, Joe, and many nieces, nephews and two very special friends, Imogene "Imo" Smith and Virginia "Gigi" Martin.
On Saturday, Dec. 28, Lorree returned home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her deep faith guided every aspect of her life. Anyone who spent even a few minutes with Lorree knew that the most important things to her were Jesus, her family (especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren) and sharing her wisdom in knitting, sewing and cooking. Lorree had an almost mystical intuition, capable of sensing when something was amiss. She was always ready with a hug, a shoulder to cry on or her famous macaroni and cheese.
Lorree was passionate about her communities, leaving behind many friends in Fernandina Beach, Waynesville (N.C.) and Daytona. She loved spending time at the family cabin in Waynesville and had resided in Fernandina for more than 64 years. Her compassion and empathy were immense; if you knew her, you knew you were loved. Lorree leaves a void that cannot be filled here, but she has gone to her eternal home to take her place in the Kingdom alongside her family and friends. Words cannot express how deeply she will be missed by those she leaves behind.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach.
Lorree will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Jacksonville National Cemetery is located at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, the Warner Center for Caring (Hospice in Fernandina) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Aunt Lorree was very special to me as she played a part in one of Gods successful Love Stories over 63 years ago. While you girls were young & got a toy typewriter for Christmas. My husband to be used it to type I love You! The 1st time he told me was at your parents on Christmas We married young & have been happy for over 63 years. We give God the Glory, and it all started on a very special Christmas thanks to our visit with you and your parents. Your loss and ours is surely Heaven's gain. Aunt Lorree was a Godly encourager & hostess to so many over the years.

Lorree was an important part of my life. She was one of my Mother´s best friends ( Lorree & Imo). John & Lorree was always there for us in happy & hard times. Lorree made my wedding dress in 1971 with so much care & love. She was a special lady with a servants heart & our Lord used her to bless so many ! I´m so thankful she was in my life!
