Martha Dixon Obituary

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Dixon (Stroisch), age 93, of Amelia Island, Fla., passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Feb. 3, 2023, at the Community Hospice Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring facility on Amelia Island and in the company of her two locally living children. Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Nashville, Tenn., she was one of two children born to the late Maximillian E. Stroisch (died in 1929 in Silver City, Nev.) and Harriet S. Stroisch (maiden name Hunter, died in July 1972 in San Mateo, Calif.).
Martha and her older sister grew up in Providence Catholic boarding school in Alexandria, La., while their mother worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the VA hospital system across the Red River in Pineville, La. They summered with family in the Nashville, Tenn., area and enjoyed farm life and horseback riding during those periods. Upon graduation from boarding school, Martha followed in her mother's
footsteps and attended nursing school at St. Elizabeths teaching hospital in Washington, D.C., as part of the 1950 graduating class. It was during this period that she met her future husband, Raymond. Being an adventurous young lady and owner and rider of her own Harley 45 motorcycle, she quickly formed a strong relationship with Raymond over their love of riding as he was at that time a Motorcycle
Policeman in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Bolling AFB in the D.C. area. Their union was made permanent on Jan. 3, 1951, and a life of travel across the United States and around the world and the birth and raising of four children ensued over the next 40 years. Ultimately, they settled on Amelia Island, Fla., in 1990 to begin their retirement years in the forever home that became the longest stationary living location of each of their entire lives. In retirement, the lifelong wanderlust that she shared with her husband continued with multiple RoadTrek camper vans that they used to travel all over and across the state of Florida, up and down the East Coast and multiple cross-country trips to visit their children and grandchildren then living in northern California.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Raymond M. Dixon (died Nov. 6, 2015, on Amelia Island, Fla.), her son, Jon Richard Dixon (died Jan. 10, 1995, on Amelia Island, Fla.) and her sister, Mary "Maxyne" Stroisch (died May 6, 2015, in Hendersonville, N.C.).
She leaves behind a daughter, Pamela Anne Hunt, Amelia Island, Fla.; two sons, Raymond Eric "Rick" Dixon, Sonora, Calif., and Kevin Sean Dixon, and his wife, Melissa, Yulee, Fla.; four adoring grandchildren, Adam, Eric, Caitlyn and Alaun; and four treasured great-grandchildren, Jon, Safa, Crystal and Skylar.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Jose Kallukalam, celebrant.
Mrs. Dixon will be laid to rest at Bosque Bello Cemetery on Amelia Island.
Rather than flowers, the family requests donations in Martha Dixon's name be made to Cats Angels Inc., 709 S. Eighth St., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
