Orval L. "Lee" Summers

Orval "Lee" L. Summers, 86, long time resident of both Veedersburg, Indiana and Seffner, Fla., and most recently of Crawfordsville, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at 2:48 a.m. at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville.
Services were held at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, on Monday, Jan. 16 with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sterling Christian Church.
Lee was a retired rural mail carrier at Hillsboro for 30 years. He was also a Barber at Hillsboro for 15 years from 1955 – 1970, and worked at Alcoa Aluminum, General Foods, and Eli Lilly in Lafayette.
His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, traveling, wintering in Florida, and enjoying time with his family and friends.
He graduated from Kingman High School in 1948, and was also a graduate of the Indianapolis Barber College. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, serving in France from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Sterling Christian Church. Lee was a loving husband and father, and a wonderful friend to many, always there with a quick smile and an offer to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
Lee was born on May 6, 1930 in Fountain County to Cyril J. and Hazel Bean Summers. He married Loretta Holycross on June 28, 1950 in her parents' home outside of Hillsboro. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Dennis Summers, of rural Veedersburg, Russ (Kim) Summers of Galena, Ohio, and one daughter, Susie (Ron) Hartema of Bloomington, IL , seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucille; two brothers, Earl and Harold: and one grandson, Evan.
