Reading the wonderful things about my Dad helps me cope with his passing. I was a true blue daddy's girl who many remember me tagging along with him during his umpiring days! I want to thank each and every one of you for your kind words, your love, and all the support shown to my family. I am still struggling, and it seems surreal, but I know he's in a better place...holding court and making the angels laugh! I miss you Daddy and will always love you!

For those that knew him, knew he was a staunch and avid champion of our Fraternal Hymn. After being in the fraternity for less than 10 days, my Line Brother and myself sat at the table of Bro Thomas during breakfast at a Regional Convention. After breakfast he and his wife (Ms. Audrey) began talking about each other's hymn. Audrey says, “Bert, I bet some of these Alpha's here, don't even know the hymn, so hush.” Bro Thomas responded, “I can't speak for all the other chapters, but in Alpha Chi Lambda, WE DON'T HAVE ANYONE THAT DOESN'T KNOW THE HYMN, because we don't tolerate {Milli Vanilli} in our chapter.”

As the breakfast was coming to a close, it was time to sing our hymn, but after being in the fraternity for less than 10 days; my Line Brother and myself, kindly excused ourselves from Bro Thomas' table, because we did not know the hymn and we didn't want to embarrass him in front of his wife.

But he knows that I know the hymn now, and I continued to fulfill my promise to him, which was to remain active and involved into the affairs of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc. Rest in Peace my Good Brother…

To the family of Bert Thomas, I have known Bert for almost 68 years. Which is a lifetime, I first met the Thomases in 1950, my parents and his parents were good friends, my mother and his mother were both nurses, and my father and his father were both educators. But I first remember Bert when I was at Haines in the second grade, my dad paid, Bert who was six years older than myself to look out for me. And lo and behold when I graduated from Lucy craft Laney in 1958 Bert Thomas was the graduation speaker. Burt has been a good and dear friend as I stated for over 60 years. Bert Thomas was a great Humanitarian, Community leader, the Solid Rock of his Church and a Devoted Family man. Bert Thomas, will be missed and in my estimation, no one could take his place. To the family my heartfelt condolences, and Bert, Rest In Peace.

My condolences to the entire Thomas and extended families. Bert Thomas was a true Educator, Mentor, and mostly just a great man. His dedication to family and friends were exceptional. As a former church member, he was one of the first role models to see potential in my son Rodney at a very early age. He impacted a lot of other youth in the Augusta area as a long time educator, sports official and a mentor. Audrey and Adrienne; his life legacy was extraordinarily proud. May God be with you all at this most difficult time. God's love eternally.
