Donna Ludwig Obituary

Donna L. Ludwig went to her heavenly home on March 30, 2012, after residing at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac for just over a year.

She was born on October 21, 1945, in Chicago, the daughter of Edward W. and Lucille E. (Kramer) Benson. Donna was raised in Chicago and has been a Fond du Lac resident since 1969.

In l963 she married Bernard J. Ludwig in Des Plaines, Il. He preceded her in death on August 18, 2002.

Donna and Bernard were partners in two businesses, Lakeview Motel and American Yamaha. She was a former member of the Jaycees and also volunteered in the dining room at Northgate Senior Apartments. For 12 years she was caregiver for Bernard while he was ill.

Mom was loved by all who knew her for her kindness and sweet personality. Over her lifetime she enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, meeting new people, music, dancing and her delight was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Watching them grow and excel gave her such pleasure.

She spoke only good words for all the staff at Hospice Home of Hope who gave of themselves to make her life comfortable and full of love during her time there. We, her family, are so appreciative to all at Hospice Home who loved and cared for Mom. You were truly a blessing to Mom and went out of your way to support us. Thank you!

SURVIVORS: Two children, Christine (Timothy) Preston of Mount Calvary, and Jeffrey (Marcie Piper) Ludwig of Fond du lac; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Nicholas) Pitzen, Travis (fiance Lindsey Koser) Roehl, Brooke Roehl, Trevor Roehl, Drew (special friend Cassandra Blaylock and son Carter) Ludwig; two step-grandchildren, Jamie and Nicholas Preston; three great-grandchildren, Austin Roehl, Bryntly Weiss, and Bentley Pitzen; sister, Patricia Benson of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; lifelong friend, Nancy (Howard) Wood of North Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lowell (Shirley) Ludwig of Eagle River, Wis., May Oberg of Eagle River, Wis., Andrew (Kay) Ludwig Jr. of Eagle River, Wis., Jerome (Donna) Ludwig of Franklin, Wis.; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister-in-law, Audrey Carter, and one brother-in-law, Robert Oberg.

SHE IS GONE

You can shed tears that she is gone

Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back

Or open your eyes and see all that she has left

Our heart can be empty because you can't see her

Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone

Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and

turn your back or you can do what she would want

Smile, open your eyes, love and go on

I'm sorry that I did not get to say goodbye to your Mom before she died. I'm a volunteer at Hospice Home and was out on a medical leave so I just found out that she passed. Your mother was a wonderful lady and I truly enjoyed visiting with her!
