Zimmerman, Elsie
Elsie A. Zimmerman, age 70, of St. Joe (rural St. Cloud), passed away Friday, October 9, 2015, at her home with her loving family at her side.
The former Elsie Nickel was born December 23, 1944, to the late Erwin & Marie (Laudolff) Nickel, on the family farm in the Town of Marshfield which she was born, raised and passed away on. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1963.
On April 30, 1966, she married David Zimmerman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe.
Elsie was proud to receive her CNA Certificate from Moraine Park Technical College. She worked at various care giving facilities such as St. Agnes Hospital and Calumet Medical Center Home Care Departments, the Calumet Homestead and the Villa Loretto Nursing Home. She had also worked with the lunch programs within the New Holstein School District. Elsie drove school bus for Daun Transportation for 12 years. She retired to dedicate her time to babysit for her grandchildren which were her pride and joy. Her grandchildren were her life.
She was a member of St. Isidore Parish-St. Joseph Church and was a member and served as an officer with the Christian Women's Society. Elsie was the coordinator and program director for the religious education program at St. Joseph Church for many years. She also sang in the church choir and was their former choir director. Elsie was also a member of the Fondy Vintage Auto Club. She was a strong supporter of FFA with her daughter, Marcie. She was an avid supporter of the Blue Line Hockey organization and the Fond du Lac Bears Hockey Team as well as a dedicated supporter of the St. Cloud Athletic Club.
Survivors include her husband, David; her four children, Lee (Amy) Zimmerman, Terry (Becky) Zimmerman, Dale (Celia) Zimmerman and Marcie Zimmerman, all of rural St. Cloud; her eight grandchildren, Laurel, Craig, Ben, Lucas, Will, Annie, Charlie and Juliet; her four-legged friend, Susie; three sisters, Beatrice Ristow of Sheboygan, Ruth (Robert) Bittner of Mount Calvary and Kathy (Dick) Gutreuter of Fond du Lac; two brothers, Roman (Ruth) Nickel and Norman (Doris) Nickel, both of Oakfield; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Jane) Zimmerman of Two Creeks and John Freismuth of Mount Calvary; a sister-in-law, Wendy (Brad) Kiczula of Fond du Lac; nieces; nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Erwin & Marie Nickel; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Arno & Merna Zimmerman; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Ristow & Gerald Zimmerman and a sister-in-law, Judy Freismuth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at St. Isidore Parish-St. Joseph Church, in St. Joe (W620 County Road G St. Cloud, WI 53079). Rev. Oliver Bambenek, OFM Cap will officiate. Elsie will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street St. Cloud, WI 53079 on Tuesday, October 13th from 3:00pm until 8:00pm and again at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 9:00am until 10:00am when brief rites will be held.
A memorial fund will be established in her name.
