Isabella Korrer Obituary

Korrer, Isabella Mae

Isabel Korrer, age 90, formerly of Minocqua, passed away March 5, 2014 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, with her husband at her side. Isabel was born to John and Amy Mandt Firth in Jackson, Michigan, on December 8, 1923. Isabel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill. Isabel is also survived by seven children, Bill Jr. "Beep" (Maggie Szostak) of Minocqua; Michael (Jaime) of Fond du Lac; Annie (Jim) Leone of Hazelhurst; Robert "Scooby" (Tina) of West Chester, Ohio; Maggie (Mark) Espeseth of Woodruff; Liz (Doug) Olson of Minocqua; and Patrick of Minocqua; a sister, Amy Lu; 15 grandchildren, Shannon Korrer, Amber (Neil) Sprangers ), Ashley Korrer, Dr. Michael (Kerry) Korrer, Benjamin (Stephanie) Korrer, Sarah (Lucas) Katzmark, Katie Leone, Robert Korrer, Jr., Samuel Korrer, Molly Korrer, Scott Zeinert, Leslie (Dan) Westerhausen, Katie Zeinert, Becca Zeinert, and Tate Olson. She is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amy, John's second wife, Mamie, her brothers, John Firth, Robert Firth, James Firth, and sister, Mary Jane Clark Bailey.

Isabel met Bill in 1946 while she was a student in East Lansing, Michigan at Michigan State College and he was a member of the U.S. Army being mustered out of active duty. They married on August 28, 1948 in Jackson, Michigan.

In addition to raising their 7 children, Isabel found time to be a partner with Bill in their businesses in both Fond du Lac and Minocqua. She was a member of the Fond du Lac Children's Home Board of Directors in addition to being a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother while in Fond du Lac. Together with their family, they operated the Little Minocqua Motel and Minocqua Yacht Club for 18 years. Isabel was on the Lakeland Recreation Association Board, the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and very active in the Lakeland Tavern League.

When Bill and Isabel set up their retirement home in Yuma, Arizona, Isabel organized and led water aerobics for the community's residents.

But the one thing that gave Isabel the greatest sense of accomplishment was her being a driving force for hospice fundraising in their retirement community. Isabel was a key organizer of an effort that raised tens of thousands of dollars over their time there.

Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, March 13th at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with Celebration of Isabel's Life at 6:00 PM.

Given Isabel's passion for hospice, the family suggests that you consider a donation to your local hospice organization in lieu of flowers.

Dear Korrer family,
I remember your mom as the funnest happiest person when we were kids. When your parents would stop while driving through Chicago we would be so excited to see them. To this day I remember the fun camping trip we went on with all of you when we were young. And the stops at Brickel's in FDL when we would go "Up North".
Both my parents are gone but they always had so much fun with yours.
I will never forget your mom {parents}.

I am so sorry and deeply saddened by your loss. Isabella and the whole Korrer family were a large part of my young life. We shared many happy times out camping and at church events. She was always eager to share her vast knowledge of wildlife both flora and fauna! I still remember and share with my own kids, grandkids and friends what I learned from her.
A couple of years ago I snuck into a wedding reception with my sister(sorry) but when I heard Bill and Izzy were in town I just had to see them! I had such a lovely time talking with and hugging them both. I too mourn the loss of a dear old friend and I send my love to you all.

You probably won't recognize my name but I used to live across the street from you in FDL and babysat for all of you many, many times. I also helped your Mom with ironing and other household chores. Our last name is Abler and we lived in the big two story that was white and later green. Anyway I remember your Mom as a very kind and happy person, just as lovely as her name and I did enjoy the time I spend there. My thoughts and sympathy to each of you and to your Dad. Both my parents are also deceased so I understand your loss.
