Leonard Kohnke Obituary
Fond du Lac - Leonard "Slim" L. Kohnke, age 95, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home.
He was born on July 8, 1925, in Ripon the son of the late August and Anna (Steinberg) Kohnke. On December 8, 1945, Leonard married Betty J. Jones in Fond du Lac. Betty preceded him in death in October 1993.
Leonard proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was employed by Mercury Marine for 42 years. Leonard was a member of Church of Peace UCC in Fond du Lac, the Eagles Aerie #270, the Fond du Lac VFW Post 1904 and participated in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Leonard loved woodworking, gardening, cutting grass and was an avid Packer fan.
Survivors include his son, Stephen (Pat) Kohnke of Clermont, Florida; five grandchildren, Tina Duffy of Fond du Lac, Shelise Maschke of Pickney, Michigan, Stephen Kohnke, Jr. of Fond du Lac, Andrea Turner of Waunakee and Matt Buckarma of Fond du Lac; 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Gladys Godfrey of Fond du Lac and Fern Wagner of Oshkosh; a brother, Eldon Kohnke of Fond du Lac, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Leonard was preceded in death by two daughters, Christine and Jody; a grandson, Anthony Kohnke, six brothers and sisters.
VISITATION: Friends may call on Friday, April 30, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at Church of Peace, 158 S. Military Road, Fond du Lac. (Social distancing and face coverings are required during the visitation and service.)
SERVICE: The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:30 AM at Church of Peace with Rev. Stephen Stepp officiating. Burial will be at Ledgeview Memorial Park where Trier Puddy American Legion Post will conduct military graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
