Theodore Versluys Obituary

Versluys, Theodore (Ted)

Theodore (Ted) Versluys, 90, Salina, Kan., passed away Saturday, June 15, 2015. He was born Jan. 18, 1925, in East Moline, Ill. The son of Theodore Versluys and Elizabeth (De Vos) Versluys.

He started at Schwan's in Marshall, Minn., as a route salesman. Promoted to Regional Manager in Wausau, Wis. He then moved his family to Fond du Lac, Wis., where he worked as Regional Manager for five years. They then moved to Carroll, Iowa, for two years. He was instrumental in Schwan's purchasing Tony's in Salina, Kan., where, he was Director of New Product Development. He worked for 40 years for Schwan's and then retired. He enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the U.S. in their motor home. He loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed buying and selling boats and hunting and fishing with family and friends.

On Feb. 5, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn (Katie) Williams in Green Valley, Minn. To this union they had nine children. Katie passed away on Jan. 19, 2006 in Salina, Kan.

He is survived by his sister, Marjorie (Orville) Hennen, Marshall, Minn; and children, Sandy Gullickson, Salina, Kan.; Keith (Kathy) Versluys, Fond du Lac, Wis.; Jim (Gaylene) Versluys, Salina, Kan.; Beth Breault, Salina, Kan.; Mary (Steve) Snyder, Salina, Kan.; John (Jill) Versluys, Olathe, Kan.; Ted (Christine) Versluys, Topeka, Kan.; Karen (David) Roesner, Salina, Kan; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by wife, Katie, son, Mark, grandson, Benjamin Breault, sons-in-law, Gary Gullickson and Tim Breault.

Visitation at Ryan Mortuaries on Thursday, June 18, from 4 to 8 p.m.with a vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral services at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Salina, Kan. on Friday, June 19, at 11 a.m.

Family suggest memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Salina Rescue Mission. Suggested flowers through his granddaughter, Quinn at Lauren Quinn's Flower Boutique, Salina, Kan. (785)502-5120.

Ted Versluys (Great Grandpa Ted) Was the one I respected the most and he was the best great grandpa I have had and the only one I knew. I loved him to death. I didn't really know his wife (Katie Versluys) but I knew I would respect her the same. She passed away sadly in 2006 and i still think about her. I would do anything to see him one last time. I can't wait to see him in heaven I know he is in heaven because he was a great man and he was a very nice grandpa. I love you Great Grandpa Ted
