Casper, Viola M.

Viola M. Casper, 91, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on May 14, 2017 at the Hospice Home of Hope. Viola was born in St. Peter on January 13, 1926 to William and Clara (Koenigs) Wirtz.

Viola married Melvin Casper on November 23, 1946 at St. Mary's Church in Fond du Lac with the Rev. Raymond Fox presiding.

Prior to retirement, Viola was employed as a legal secretary for Fond du Lac County. She was a member of Holy Family, St. Mary's Church, its Altar Society and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary #664. She enjoyed baking, planting her flowers, feeding the birds, playing cards and Scrabble, watching the Brewers and Packers but most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include Viola's children, Susan (Donald) Wegner of Fond du Lac, Michael (Julie) Casper of Oconto Falls, WI, Stephen (Betty) Casper of Almond, WI and Karen Schlichting of Athens, WI; twelve grandchildren, Paul (Stacy) Lange, Lisa Marie Lange, Chad (Casey) Wegner, Tara (Arlan) Nathan, Kristy (Adam) Turner, Jake Jensen, Chad (Shannon) Casper, Shaun (Amber) Casper, Lindsay (Jonathan) Nelson, Tim Schlichting, Todd (Tracy Wendt) Schlichting and Andrew Schlichting; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Paul Wirtz; other relatives and friends.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her parents, her son, Joseph, son-in-law Roger Schlichting, brothers, Clarence and Ludger "Louie" Wirtz; and sister, Lorraine Fowler. Also preceding her in death were four sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends at Holy Family Parish Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

Services: At 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish Church. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.
