Barbara Curley Obituary

Barbara C. (Isaacs) Curley , age 89 of Dedham, MA and formerly of Dennis, MA, Bradenton, FL
and Leominster, MA - died peacefully May 24th.
Cherished mother of David Jr and his wife Adrienne of Sacramento, CA ; Thomas and his wife
Jane of New Milford, CT ; Brian and his wife Christine of Boston, MA ; Paul and his wife
Cynthia of Sterling, MA ; Mary and her husband Donald Powell of Hyde Park, MA.
Loving grandmother to Brendan Curley and his wife Heather; Elizabeth Curley, Matthew Curley
and his wife Anne; James Curley; Brendon, Sean and Lauren Powell; and great-grandchildren
Jacqueline and Ryan Curley.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 37 years David H Curley Sr, her brother Thomas
Isaacs and sister Mary Burbank.
Barbara was born in Dayton , OH to Roy and Mary Elizabeth (Thomas) Isaacs. Shortly after, the
family moved to NJ where her father had taken a job with the growing aircraft industry. At the
time of her father's death he was a VP with Bendix Corporation. Barbara graduated from Glen
Ridge High School and went on to Tufts University. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and
graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Biology. After graduation she worked at Harvard
Medical School in the Dept. of Surgical Research, and later for the Schering Pharmaceuticals in
NJ. She married college sweetheart David in 1954. At the time he was serving in the army
during the Korean conflicts.
The couple moved to Leominster and established the Curley Funeral Home which they owned
an operated until his death in 1991. They were both active members of St Leo's parish .
Barbara was in several music groups in the area - Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, past Prefect; St
Leo's Choir; Thursday Night Musical Club, past President; Lancastrian Choral Society. She was
also a member of Monoosnock CC.
Barbara continued her education at Fitchburg State, where she received a Masters in
Education in 1974. She taught at Leominster High School from 1973 - 1980. When she left
teaching, she worked at UMass Medical Center in Medical Records until 1988.
Barbara spent winters in Bradenton, FL, but in 2000 she moved full time to Dennis MA. She
was involved musically there as well - singing in the St Pius choir, the Mid Cape Chorus, and as
a pianist with the June Fisher Singers. She also entertained at area nursing homes for
residents. She studied piano at the Cape Cod Conservatory. She was a volunteer with the
Hospice of VNA of Cape Cod and Windsor Nursing. She was a member of the Dennis golf
courses, and enjoyed the beaches and nature trails of Cape Cod and spending time with
family.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday June 1st at 10AM in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main St.
Leominster, with burial in St. Leo's Cemetery . Calling hours will be from 4-8pm on Friday May
31 at Curley-Marchand Funeral Home at 89 West St, Leominster.
Donations can be made in Barbara's name to the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod online or by mail
