Curtis Smith Obituary

Lunenburg, American Red Cross volunteer

LUNENBURG -- Curtis A. Smith, 55, of Lunenburg, died yesterday June 1st, in his home after a lengthy illness.

Curt is survived by his wife Patricia J. Smith of Lunenburg, his two children, Amelia Smith, 24, of Lincoln NH, and Benjamin Smith, 23, of Fitchburg, his two stepdaughters Suzanne Curtis of Douglas, and Jessica Weber of San Diego, and his two grandsons James and Jacob Curtis of Douglas, his parents, Allen W. Smith and Dorothy L. (Gibbs) Smith of Holden, two brothers Larry Smith of Athol, Brian Smith and his long-time partner Gerry Gelineau of Worcester, and one sister Patricia Smith of Longmont CO, his sister-in-law Robin Smith of Leominster, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Wayne Smith of Marblehead, and Ronald Smith of Leominster, in 2004 and 2010 respectively.

Curt was born on July 16th 1954 in Fitchburg. He graduated Fitchburg High School in 1972 and became somewhat of a renaissance man soon after. In his most recent profession, Curt worked as a Production Line Manager for M.R.V in Littleton. He has also owned and operated a franchise chip business and chimney sweep business, volunteered for the American Red Cross, worked as a motion picture projectionist at a number of local theaters and, through his love of woodworking he operated as an independent contractor.

Curt's passions included camping in the White Mountains with his family and taking long motorcycle rides with his brothers to various New England destinations. His passion for woodworking revealed the creative and dedicated man that he was and his legacy lives on in the beautiful structures he crafted over the years.

At the end of the day, whether returning home from a commute or hammering in that last nail, Curt most enjoyed relaxing (perhaps on a deck he recently built) and spending time with his family and friends.

SMITH -- A memorial service will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd, Fitchburg on Saturday, June 5, at 6:00 P.M. Calling hours are Friday, June 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross PO Box 4002018 Des Moines, IA 50340-2018.

Curt I am glad I had the honor of knowing you. I met you when we both needed a friend. Those times we played pool, motor cycle rode or just talked will forever be in my heart. I am so glad that I was able to see you before you past my good friend.

Love your Friend,

Leann

One of my earliest memories of Curtis is his openhearted invitation to friendship at DM Dillon Elementary School. He wore his heart and his soul on his sleeve and we who were blessed to know him appreciated this quality. My prayers are with all the Smith family. Curtis is a true angel now.
