Gilbert Currier Obituary

Gilbert D. Currier, Sr. former Clinton funeral home owner; 80 CLINTON Gilbert D. Currier, Sr., 80, of Clinton, died Thursday, August 21, 2008, in Clinton Hospital, following an illness. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Eleanor L. (Runberg) Currier; two sons, Gilbert D. Currier, Jr. of Clinton and John A. Currier of Waterbury, CT; four daughters, Marcia L. Currier and Mary E. Currier, both of Clinton, Anne M. Currier of Pelham, NH, and Ruth E. Canelas of New Canaan, CT; eight grandchildren, Ian, Hannah, Sarah, William, John, Jenna, Joseph, and Alexander; many nieces and nephews. A brother, John H. Currier and two sisters, Frances Ginnity and Belle Stoddard predeceased him. Gil was born and raised in Fitchburg, the son of John A. and Marcia (Davis) Currier. He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School, and the New England Institute of Anatomy & Embalming, Class of 1952. For over 30 years, he owned and operated the Stone-Currier Funeral Home in Clinton. Following his retirement, he continued to work part-time for the Athy Funeral Home in Worcester. Gil served with the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring as a Major after 24 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Clinton; a member of the Clinton Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Aurora Lodge of Masons in Fitchburg, where he also served as Master Councilor of its DeMolay Club. He was a former member of the Clinton Zoning Board of Appeals, and an honorary member of the Board of the Clinton Home. Gil was devoted to his family, and above all, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. CURRIER Gil's funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 34 Walnut Street. Burial will follow in New Cemetery, Ashburnham. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 2:00 5:00 p.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church Street, www.mcnallywatson.com
