SHIRLEY: Harold J. Smith, Sr., 94, of Shirley died Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Nashoba Park, Ayer.

His wife of 53 years, Rita L. (Pauley) Smith died September 7, 2000.

Mr. Smith was born in Shirley, August 2, 1928 one of three sons born to Chester and Anna (LePage) Smith and was a lifelong Shirley resident.

For nineteen years Mr. Smith worked as driver at Montachusett Home Care in Leominster for which he was recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for his many years of outstanding service.

Previously, he had worked in the maintenance department at Lura A. White School in Shirley and as a foreman at George Frost Company also in Shirley. He had also served as a Special Officer for the Shirley Police Department.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Shirley. He was a member of the Shirley Council on Aging and was instrumental in the formation of the Shirley Senior Center. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Shirley American Legion as well as the Board of Directors of Montachusett Home Care.

He leaves three sons, Sonny Smith of Gardner, David M. Smith of Milford, NH, John G. Smith of Medway; two daughters, Donna M. Jordan of Fitchburg, Sharon A. Copenhaver of Belchertown; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great

grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Edward Smith of Shirley and Robert Smith of Melbourne, Florida.

Mr. Smith's funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Monday, May 1, 2023 at St. Anthony's Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
