Herbert Sargent Obituary

LEOMINSTER -- Herbert R. Sargent, 89, formerly of Leominster and Lowell, died on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton.

Mr. Sargent was born on Dec. 27, 1917, in Chelmsford, son of Harry W. and Gertrude S. (Alexander) Sargent, and had lived in Lowell before moving to Leominster in 1980. He moved to Charlton a few years ago. Herb graduated from Chelmsford High School, and had worked in the maintenance department at the Worcester North Savings Bank in Fitchburg before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Leominster and volunteered at Montachusett Home Care. He enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, doing crafts and going to yard sales.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy P. Hicks and her husband, Donald G. Hicks, of Leominster; his son, Paul W. Sargent and his wife, Helen L. Sargent, of Southbury, Conn.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor J. (Graham) Sargent, in 1978. He was also predeceased by his five sisters, Gertrude Burndrett, Edith Huskey, Dorothy McGuinnis, Grace Fulton and Jessie Santamour.

SARGENT -- A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. in the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 26 West St., Leominster. Burial will beq on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in Edison Cemetery in Lowell. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Overlook Masonic Health Center, 88 Masonic Home Road, Charlton, MA 01507, or the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 26 West St., Leominster, MA 01453.
