PEPPERELL -- Jerome A. Moore Sr., 56, of Pepperell, died Monday, May 26, in Beth Israel Hospital, Boston.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1946, in Nashua, N.H., the son of George O. and Helen (Fisher) Moore. He was a lifelong resident of Pepperell, where he attended the schools and was a 1965 graduate of North Middlesex High School, Townsend.
Upon his graduation, Mr. Moore enlisted in the U.S. Army serving with the 577th engineer Battalion during the Vietnam War serving a total of 18 months in Camrhon Bay, Vietnam as a Specialist 5.
A reserve police officer in Pepperell for two years, he later served as a regular officer for nine years before his Vietnam service compromised his health. After his service as a police officer he later was employed at the Institute of Professional Practice involved in the care of mentally challenged individuals in Westminster as a counselor.
A parishioner at St. Boniface Parish in Lunenburg, he was also the past Post Commander of the Pepperell and Lunenburg American Legion as well as being a past chaplain with the Pepperell Post. He was also a life member of the Pepperell Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed artifact retrieval with the use of metal detectors with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. (McGuire) Moore, to whom he would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in June. He is also survived by his three children, Jerome A. Moore Jr. and his wife Amy of Lunenburg, Marybeth Moore of Nashua, N.H. and Shawn Moore of Pepperell; and one granddaughter, Jaclyn Moore.
MOORE -- On May 26, Jerome A. Moore Sr., 56, of Pepperell. The funeral will be held from the Hamilton Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Route 113) Pepperell on Friday, May 30, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg. Visiting hours in the funeral home are Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Cremation to follow.
