Nicholas Kallio Obituary

Nicholas James Kallio, 26
Beloved son, brother,

uncle and grandson

ASHBURNHAM, MA -- Nicholas "Nick" "Nicky" James Kallio, 26, of Ashburnham, MA died Thursday, April 7, 2016 as the result of a devastating and tragic accident.

Nick was the beloved son of Cynthia Clark Kallio of Groton and Kyle S. and Danielle Kallio of Ashburnham. He will forever be missed by his loving brother and best friend, Kyle A. Kallio; Stephanie Hartwell; special niece, Aubrey Kallio; and all of Ashburnham. Surviving him are his grandparents, Richard and Cecelia Clark of Townsend and Tom and Paula Silva of Arlington. He was predeceased by his cherished grandparents, Oiva and Nancy Kallio, formerly of Acton; and his aunt, Diana Harpin of Westborough. In addition, Nick leaves aunts and uncles, Pam and Jeff McKee of Salem, Mark Copp of Lancaster, Lynne Dunn of Northampton, Sharon and Joe Milne of Burlington, Carrie and Toby Boyd of Arlington; great-uncle and aunt, William and Doris Bain of Hamilton; cousins, Christen Maglio of Longmeadow, Tim Dunn of Boston, Evan and Emma Harpin of Westborough; and many loving friends.

Nick was born in Concord, MA on July 5, 1989 and spent his early childhood in Acton /Boxborough before moving to Ashburnham at the age of eleven, where he attended Overlook Middle School and Monty Tech. Nick was extremely proud to serve as a decorated soldier/aviation specialist in the US Army National Guard during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and remained a member of the National Guard after he returned home from Kuwait.

Nick was an avid outdoorsman from the time he could hold a fishing pole, alongside his father and brother. He loved turkey and deer hunting with his grandfather, Richard. He was always most comfortable in nature enjoying life's simple pleasures. All who met him knew he had the kindest of souls with a huge heart and an endearing sense of humor.

He would say his greatest accomplishment was conquering his addiction as he died clean and sober doing what he truly loved, tree work.

KALLIO -- A prayer service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA.

Burial will be at a later date.

Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. prior to the prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick's memory to Veteran's Transition House, 20 Willis Street, New Bedford, MA 02740.

While the loss of a loved one is never easy, even when anticipated, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us too soon. Your recent loss of your loved one whose tragic death at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses.

We ask for God's blessings on your family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence by remembering you do not walk alone.

Your loved one will always be a part of our country's story. As such, their sacrifice on behalf of our nation will always be honored.
