Some of my fondest memories of my favorite father-in-law:
- him coming to my rescue on the Mass Turnpike when I blew up the engine in Amy's car trying to drive it to her in Princeton
-cutting tiles as he put our kitchen and bathroom floor into our first home
-riding bikes with him and Ellen to the beach through the tulip fields in Holland
-the courage (and the tools) he gave me to pursue more challenging home improvement jobs
-talking him back to the campsite over the walkie-talkie when he and Ellen got lost in Yosemite
-the night we put him (and his cane) in charge of the women and grandchildren when we dropped them all off in the middle of the Vieques rain-forest at night in the pitch black with directions to head to the beach where we would pick him up in the dinghy after visiting the bio-luminescent bay.
-how it took Peps years to figure out the difference between Sam Adams and St. Paulie Girl beer
-me having to retrieve his fishing pole from the bottom of the ocean when an over-enthusiastic cast saw his gear slip away from him, while fishing at night from the back of the boat
-the way people had to jump out of the way as I pushed him (rather fast) in his wheelchair in between casinos over the Las Vegas Strip
-playing Rummy-Cube, farkle, spoons with the grandkids (even over facetime during Covid)
-steamed Maine lobster, which Norby taught me how to eat, the appreciation of which now has become somewhat of a test for prospective boyfriends of my own girls
-The often-late-night back-deck or front-porch conversations about life and how lucky he was to have Ellen and how proud he was of his two daughters Amy and Shelly
Rest in peace Peps, we will all miss you.

Dear Ellen, Michelle and Ken, Amy and Jan, and families,
Please accept our sincere condolences at the passing of your beloved Norby. There will certainly always be a special place in our hearts for him, as we remember how he both welcomed and entertained us when we became your neighbors many years ago. What fun he brought to every gathering!
We also remember how thrilled we would be when Norby agreed to lend his fine tuned finished carpentry work to a project we would undertake in our homes. He was a perfectionist in his work, and our family was frequently the beneficiary of these skills. He was gifted!
We pray that his soul Rest In Peace, and that your hearts be consoled by the love of family and friends and by God’s amazing grace.
With love,
Emily Andersen

Oh my dearest Pepe,
I couldn’t have asked for a better grandfather. You always put a smile on everyone’s faces, and looking back on memories I can’t help smiling and laughing; remembering all the good times. You were loved sincerely by so many people, and we will miss you very, very much. I miss your terrible jokes and your loving laugh already. I hope you have all the lobster and clams up in heaven, and we will try to win the lottery for you! I could go on for hours: I regret not living closer, and spending more time with you, but in the time we had together, I felt nothing but love, laughter and happiness. I love you so much, and I hope you love the casino in the sky.
Sincerely your granddaughter,
Emily Andersen
