Richard Hautala Obituary

81, Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather

Fitchburg

Richard E. Hautala, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Dick was born January 6, 1940 to the late Eino and Marie (Richards) Hautala of Fitchburg.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Bonnie (Ciaschini) Hautala; one son, James Hautala and his wife Tonya (Urban); one granddaughter, Gabriella and one grandson, Nathaniel, all of Shrewsbury, MA; one sister, Virginia Myers of Fitchburg.

Dick took pride in his work as a tool and die maker at Simond's Industries and served as a Union Steward and Financial Secretary.

Some of Dick's many accomplishments included being an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster for many years. He was the former president of the Leominster Sportsmen's Club and the Retired Men's Club, as well as a member of the Council on Aging for the City of Fitchburg. As a parishioner of St. Anthony's, he was an active member of several ministries. Dick was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow and enjoyed teaching Indian Dancing.

In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman and hunter, and as he aged, he went on to enjoy bowling, billiards and cribbage. Dick cherished going to Jim's games and cheering for his team.

When his grandchildren started playing sports he made sure to be at every game cheering them on. He loved being a Father and a Grandfather and he will be so greatly missed.

Thank you to all the UMass Leominster Hospital staff for taking tremendous care of Dick while his health declined. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral service will be private with a memorial mass held at a later date.

The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA, has been entrusted with Dick's arrangements.
