Richard Haverty Obituary

Journeyman Electrician

LITTLETON -- Richard J. Haverty, 71, a resident of Littleton and longtime former Lunenburg resident, died peacefully in his home, Thursday, August 16, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with melanoma, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Sheryl M. (Huntoon) Haverty; two sons, Jeffrey W. Haverty and his wife, Robin, of Dacula, GA, and Sean P. Haverty and his wife, Maggie, of Lawrenceville, GA; one daughter, Arlene A. Clark, and her husband, Lawrence, of Billerica, MA; two sisters, Joan Callahan and Mary Landry, both of Woburn, MA; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly Clark, Brendan Clark and his significant other, Nicole, Patrick Clark and his significant other, Caitlyn, Timothy Clark, Matthew Clark, and Catherine Clark and Kaitlyn, McKayla, Kyler, Conall, and Molly Haverty; and four great-grandchildren, Noelle and Ryan Carter and Kelsey and Jacob Clark; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Jerome Haverty.

Mr. Haverty was a Journeyman Electrician for many years, last employed as an Electrician at the Bedford Veterans Hospital.

He was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Lunenburg. He enjoyed Bingo, and was an avid golfer. He was a 1958 graduate of Woburn High School, and was a past member and Past Post Commander of the V.F.W. Townsend Post #6538.

He enlisted in the National Guard when he was in high school, and later enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict at the rank of Spec 4 as a Radio Operator and combat engineer. He later served in the Naval Reserves for five years in the Construction Battalion.

He was born in Somerville, MA, on October 3, 1940, a son of the late William J., and Cecelia E. (Miner) Haverty and grew up in Woburn. He moved to Lunenburg in 1995, and lived there until recently moving to Littleton.

HAVERTY -- His Funeral, with military honors, will be held on Tuesday, August 21, from the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass Ave. with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, 817 Mass Ave., Lunenburg. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are on Monday, August 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 350 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01604 or may be left at the Funeral Home.
